Dr. George M. Brown is the Assistant Vice Provost and Director of Recreation and Wellness at The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. He has served within Student Affairs for 30 years previously at The University of Alabama. He has served in many leadership areas and presented on numerous occasions within NIRSA (National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association) and is a current and active member of the ACHA (American College Health Association) and NASPA (National Association of Student Personnel Administrators). He serves within the Office of Student Affairs Leadership Team at The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. His research interest is physical activity and holistic wellness among college students. He oversees and directs a comprehensive University Recreation and Wellness department with over 60 full and part-time staff in addition to over 750 student employees and a $13 million budget.
George's interests outside of his work are watching and actively engaged in the growth of his seven children ages 10 to 26 and one grandchild. He and his wife, Dr. Melanie Tucker, enjoy all types of exercise, travel to the favorite beach destinations, sports, music and just being together as a family. Their kids are active in sports and school organizations which keep them all very busy.
