Communities Help

Q: What are Communities?
A: Communities are online discussions or message boards, designed to send the same message to all members of the community. Communities messages can have attachments, all of which become documents in that Community’s Library. Communities are restricted to community members. Only members of a community can access the Communities of that community. If you are not a member of the History, for example, you will not be able to see or contribute to History Community postings.

Q: Where can I access Communities?
A: You can access Communities on any page of Habitat through the main navigation bar: look for Discussions
. Click on it directly to access the Communities landing page. You can also access all your Communities through your profile page. They will be listed under your picture.

Q: How can I join a Community?
A: You can type in the communities you are interested in joining using the key words (Intramural, Facilities, Sport Club, etc), and search for them.  Click on the appropriate community, and then click on the Member tab, and there will be an option to “join community”.  This should get you into any of the open communities you are interested in.  Some communities (committee-related and regional) are by invitation only and won’t have a “join community” button
.

Q: What do I need to do to post and read Communities messages?
A: All Section Communities messages are delivered to all section members in real time. Members now receive postings to their Communities via email once a day in a daily digest by default. Members can manage how they see Communities postings through the My Subscriptions
link under “Discussions” on the main navigation.  You will also be prompted to subscribe when accessing an Community for the first time. Post to a community through the Post Message link under “Discussions” as well.
